Vocals are edgy, bass is non-existent and it doesn't go very loud. The Mini is louder, sounds smoother with music and has decent bottom end for a device the size of a hockey puck. Still, the feature is handy when you're asking about your calendar appointments, or asking it to call Mom (and not, say, your roommate's mom). Regardless of which voice you choose, I still wish Google would give its Assistant a better name. It's an oblong orb of plastic and fabric with no visible buttons, save for a slider to mute the microphone that's hidden in the back.
The developer provided this information and may update it over time. One other small concern -- from a distance, it isn't always easy to see the indicator lights on the top of the device that tell you it's ready for a command. It puts the power of the internet just an utterance away, with the Google Assistant as your concierge. The Google Home Mini puts all of the smarts of Google Assistant into a small and affordable package. The Mini sounds surprisingly good for its size and features a colorful design that can blend into your home's decor. Unlike the Home Mini, the Nest Mini comes with a built-in wall mount. It also provides better sound, with improved bass response, although the physical speakers in both devices use 40mm drivers.
In terms of functionality, the Home Mini and Nest Mini are identical. They answer all the same queries and commands, and they work with all of the same devices and apps. Starting this fall, you’ll be able to find Matter-enabled smart lighting, plugs, locks, sensors, thermostats, shades and blinds, Wi-Fi routers, and more. Google Home lets you see live feeds of your Nest cameras and doorbell from your browser, all in one view.

And with Voice Match, the Assistant can tell your voice from others—up to six people can get personal assistance on each device. It's difficult to explain but every time I get into the app it looks like the lights are off but in reality the light is on.
